Four-star quarterback recruit Jaden Rashada will be bringing his talents to Tempe after decommitting from Florida. The Pittsburg, California product picked Arizona State as his destination on National Signing Day over TCU, the school that was in a two-horse race along with ASU for Rashada’s commitment.
Rashada made the announcement in a Twitter post on Wednesday.
Nabbing Rashada is the biggest move made by new Sun Devil coach Kenny Dillingham, who’s already stockpiled lots of talent through the transfer portal this offseason. Rashada will bring an impressive high school resume to a quarterback room that already includes returning senior Trenton Bourguet, Notre Dame transfer Drew Pyne and BYU transfer Jacob Conover.
Rashada won’t be the first in his family to wear a maroon and gold jersey at Sun Devil Stadium, as his father Harlen was a defensive back for ASU from 1992-94. Following in his father’s footsteps will give him an opportunity to make his own mark on Arizona State, his “childhood dream school.”
The prized recruit could possibly start his freshman year, doing what Jayden Daniels did in 2019. As mentioned previously, he will have stiff competition from Bourguet, Pyne and Conover, but Rashada has the talent to win the job. His commitment will add another layer of excitement to spring practices this year.
Rashada’s decision to come to the Valley marks the end of a long recruitment saga. He originally committed to Miami (FL) in June of last year but ended up switching to the Gators in November. His commitment to playing at Florida was short-lived after a massive deal worth more than $13 million with a Florida NIL collective fell through.
ASU had originally offered Rashada in June 2020.
Rashada is the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in the nation, according to ESPN. He had an incredible 2022 campaign at Pittsburg High School, throwing for 3,055 yards and 32 touchdowns, while also rushing for 419 yards and finding the end zone with his legs seven times.
Time will tell when Rashada starts a game for the Sun Devils, but for now all that matters is that he will be wearing a pitchfork on his helmet. Kenny Dillingham has been telling people the importance of activating ASU, and this move is definitely one that has Sun Devil fans filled with excitement.
