The Arizona State women’s gymnastics team set new records for themselves in Seattle while taking the victory over the University of Washington.
The Sun Devils beat the Huskies with the final all-around score of 197.475 to 197.250. This is ASU’s best true road score in program history by an additional 0.025, as well as the 12th highest score in program history. The team collectively scored over 49 points in each event for the fourth week straight.
Starting with bars, the Sun Devils took the podium with junior Cienna Samiley scoring a career high of 9.925 in first place. Following in second place was senior Hannah Scharf with a 9.900, and senior Gracie Reeves tied for third with a 9.875.
The team kept the momentum up through the second rotation setting their highest total score of 49.325 on vault this season. Junior Anaya Smith stood at the top of the podium with a 9.900. Sophomore Alex Theodorou and Scharf tied for second place, both scoring a 9.875. Senior Jordyn Jaslow placed next with a 9.850.
On the floor exercise, the team set another season high with 49.500 total points. Scharf matched her own season high with a 9.950 and placed second in the event. Both junior Emily White and Jaslow tied their career high scores with a 9.900. Freshman Kayla Lee, junior Sarah Clark, and Theodorou scored a 9.875, with this as Theodorou’s season debut on floor and Lee’s career high on the event.
The Gym Devils finished strong on beam with a team score of 49.300. White took the lead tying her career high of 9.925. Scharf placed second with a 9.900. Freshman Kimberly Smith set a career high with a 9.850. Clark scored a 9.825, and Lee tied her career high of 9.800.
Scharf took the highest all-around score in the competition with a 39.625. White had the third highest score of 39.450, followed by Reeves with a 39.125.
The Sun Devils will be looking to take their third straight win at home against No. 11 Oregon State at the Senior Day meet on Saturday, March 4 at 3 p.m. MST.
