Arizona State (7-2) took off right where they left off on Saturday with a 4-0 win over UNLV (7-4) claiming their fifth win in a row on the second day of their eight-team ASU Invitational at Kiwanis Park in Tempe.

The Sun Devils came out hot once again starting in doubles, as sophomore Murphy Cassone and junior Jacob Bullard secured the win (6-2). This win granted the Sun Devils a single point awarded to doubles.

Junior Max McKennon and freshman Roi Ginat came out victorious (6-3) with their fourth straight doubles win as partners which also gave the Sun Devils the single point awarded to doubles.

The Sun Devils continued their sweep of UNLV in singles with wins by McKennon (6-3, 6-2), junior Spencer Brachman (6-4, 6-2), and freshman Constantinos Koshis (6-3, 4-6, 6-2).

Koshis showed his passion and how he is the ultimate competitor with a singles win (6-3, 4-6, 6-2). After being visibly frustrated during the matches from the day before, Koshis tried to come out Saturday with a changed attitude and focus.

“Today was actually pretty tough to come in and be better mentally, I told myself that I just got to be more calm and perform better,” Koshis said.

The wind certainly played a factor for players as it picked up as the day went along.

“It was definitely tough, especially in the beginning with the wind but it comes down to who can play better,” Koshis said.

Coming into Saturday’s match, Koshis was not feeling 100% after being sick all of last week and looked very frustrated in his matches the day before.

“He’s definitely talking to himself better and you can hear his positivity was better in between points and when he’s doing that, he’s an incredibly dangerous player,” head coach Matt Hill said.

Hill was impressed with his players being sharp at the beginning of the games and their ability to control their emotions for the most part.

“We put it as a point of emphasis today to come out of the gate better, to hold your leads better, and to take care of the first two points of the game better,” Head Coach Matt Hill said.

The Sun Devils went on to defeat Loyola Marymount 4-0 on Sunday to win the 2023 ASU Invitational.
