Final minute heroics from Eva van Deursen ensured the Sun Devils opened Pac-12 play collecting all three points on the road.
A fair weathered day in Boulder featured a Pac-12 matchup between ASU (5-0-2) and the University of Colorado Buffaloes (6-2-2).
The Sun Devils struck first with a goal from Alexia Delgado at 29:15 into the match. This would be the only score during the first half leaving the Buffaloes scoreless despite their four shots taken.
At 58:09 into the match, Eva van Deursen increased the ASU lead to 2-0, assisted by Olivia Nguyen. A nice comfortable lead early in the second half must have felt nice for the Devils especially for goalkeeper Pauline Nelles.
Perhaps the Sun Devils got too comfortable, because the Buffaloes quickly got themselves on to the board with quick back-to-back goals. A goal by Colorado’s Juliuana Hayward at 69:53 and only shortly after, a goal Civana Kuhlman at 71:05 brought the score from 2-0 to a 2-2 game.
After that poor stretch from the Sun Devil defending, the Bufaloes could not hold on to the momentum and could only attempt one other shot for the rest of the second half.
With the Sun Devils in a rush to secure their victory after the 2-2 tie, they accumulated five shots total until Eva van Deursen scored her second goal of the match that proved to be the game winner in the final minutes.
ASU has the weekend off before returning home to face California on Thursday at 7 p.m. MST.
