The Arizona State soccer team continued their conference opening streak under Graham Winkworth, who remains unbeaten (5-0-2) in Pac-12 openers (Sedona Levy / Inferno Intel).

Fresh off a shutout victory over Colorado College a week ago, the Arizona State Sun Devils (6-1-3, 1-0) opened their conference schedule with a 2-0 victory over the Oregon State Beavers (3-3-3, 0-1) Friday night in Tempe.

Enasia Colon, the sophomore midfield/forward, netted both goals for ASU and leads the team in both goals and assists so far this season.
The Sun Devils pressured the Beavers offensively and defensively in the first half. Colon scored an astonishing goal assisted by freshman forward Savannah Maley near the end of the 21st minute. Her second goal came in the second half, as junior forward Keri Matthews assisted Colon around the 57th minute.

The sophomore credited her prolific play on Friday to the practice and preparation the team had leading up to the Pac-12 opener.
“We just kept working and working and finishing and shooting. Defensively we were doing amazing, and then it was just that last pass we just needed to work on,” Colon said. “So obviously we’re making runs in practice doing everything that we had to do. It’s just communication and chemistry that we needed out there.”
The confident mindset that Colon obtained before the game started was one of the key factors in her successful performance against the Beavers last night.
“My mindset was pretty open. I mean a little bit of nervousness with being the last first Pac-12 game we have here at ASU,” Colon said. “As the first fifteen minutes went by, I just felt like overall the jitters went away, and as a team, our chemistry is just too good. I feel like we’re an amazing team and we have a bunch to show to everybody in the Pac-12 for the rest of the season.”

Coach Graham Winkworth’s squad now looks ahead to a Bay Area trip next week, beginning with a match at Stanford next Thursday, September 28.

“The next game is Stanford, and honestly I can’t wait for that game. I remember the game we had here with them last year. It was hot. It was dirty. It was a back-and-forth grip,” Colon said. “We did lose that game, but honestly, we have nothing to lose, and I feel like we have a point to prove.”
