ASU Track & Field: Sun Devils star at Ted Nelson Invitational

The Arizona State Track & Field program battled things out at the Ted Nelson Indoor Invitational on Saturday in College Station.

Junior thrower Brandon Lloyd started things the right way for the Arizona State Track & Field program as he threw for his personal best which was 18.01 meters and placed second overall.

Junior thrower Danielle Sloley and sophomore thrower Ines Lopez both threw for reasonable placements as Sloley threw for 15.42 meters and landed in first place and Lopez at 14.64 meters for third place.

Junior pole vaulter Taylor Starkey tied for 3rd place with another pole vaulter from Clemson as Starkey pole vaulted for the height of 3.87 meters high.

Freshman distance runner Mia Chavez proved herself against other elite distance runners as she placed fourth overall with a finishing time of 4:53.69.

Senior triple jumpers Tierra Robinson-Jones and Kiara Lee both jumped successfully as Robinson-Jones jumped for 12.42 meters which placed her at second overall and Lee at 12.34 which set her at fourth overall.

Junior sprinter Adriana Tatum proved her presence once again in short-distance events as she placed second overall out of 19 collegiate runners with her personal best of 23.45 seconds.

Senior sprinters Kaleb Simpson and Justin Robinson performed well again as they both placed in the top two spots of the 200-meter race.

Sophomore distance runner Claire Le Gallo battled things out against other elite collegiate distance runners as she competed in the 3000 meters race, and finished second overall with a finishing time of 9:54.14.

Senior sprinter Justin Robinson, graduate student sprinter Gamma Felix, senior sprinter Kaleb Simpson, and freshman sprinter Jayden Davis all went 47 seconds under on each of their splits in the 4×400 relay. The team finished first overall in the event and became the second-fastest 4×400 time in the nation and second-best time in team history.

With everything concluded for the Sun Devils at the Nelson Invitational, they will have to get on a flight next weekend to come back to College Station, Texas again, as they compete in the Charlie Thomas Indoor Invitational.
