The Arizona State Track & Field team had some remarkable performances at the Tyson Indoor Invitational in Arkansas on Feb. 9-10.
Senior sprinter Justin Robinson placed first overall in the 400-meter finals race with a finishing time of 45.30 seconds. Robinson managed to break his own school record time by .10 seconds, making this his best time so far.
Junior pole vaulter Taylor Starkey placed first overall in her field event. She jumped at 4.13 meters and secured herself a new personal best record. Just behind her was sophomore pole vaulter Melana Schumaker from Youngstown State University, as she fell .10 meters short.
Junior sprinter Da’Marcus Fleming from LSU won the 200-meter race, as senior sprinter Kaleb Simpson and senior sprinter Denzell Feagin both placed right behind Fleming from LSU. Simpson placed second overall at 20.81 seconds making that his personal best record and Feagin third overall at 20.83 seconds also making that his personal best record.
Robinson, graduate student Gamali Felix, senior sprinter Kaleb Simpson, and freshman sprinter Jayden Davis all smashed their own school’s record with a finishing time of 3:02.73 seconds in the 4×400 meet relay.
Not only were they able to smash their school’s record but they also managed to get their season’s best time and one of the top country’s times this season.
They all managed to get splits under 46 seconds and placed first overall in the final race of the meet.
ASU ultimately walked away with two new records and three titles.
The Sun Devils will next take part in the Ken Shannon Indoor Invitational on Feb.23-24 in Seattle, WA.
