When Arizona State takes the field on Saturday against Texas Tech the Sun Devils will see a familiar face on the opposing sideline: Jalin Conyers.
After spending three seasons at ASU, the senior tight end opted to leave the program to return home to Texas and play for the Red Raiders.
Although no longer with the team, ASU head coach Dillingham cherishes fond memories of his former team captain in the lone year the two spent together.
“Jalin was an awesome Sun Devil,” Dillingham said. “He was one of the most liked people in our program. I brought him to media days as a captain… I had such a good relationship with Jalin and I’m glad to see his success”
During his time in Tempe, Conyers was a key component of the Arizona State offense. In his three years with the team, he racked up 846 receiving yards, 74 receptions and seven touchdowns.
Additionally, Conyers remained involved in the Sun Devil community. He worked with local businesses, helped in NIL efforts and even hosted his own podcast to connect with fans.
Now in Lubbock, he adds to a high-flying Texas Tech offense that could test the Sun Devil’s defense in ASU’s Big 12 opener.
Conyers found immediate success with Texas Tech in non-conference play. In just three games, he amassed 105 receiving yards, 11 receptions and two touchdowns.
Perhaps the most impressive facet of his hot start has been his positional versatility, which caught the attention of his former coach.
“He’s playing in the wildcat, at wideout, tight end and in the backfield as a second running back,” Dillingham said. “I couldn’t be happier for him and what’s happened for him in the first three games.”
Despite enjoying Conyer’s early season success, ASU’s head coach hopes to contain his former star pass catcher when he takes the field this Saturday.
“Hopefully there’s one bad game in there, maybe week four that would be the goal,” Dillingham joked.
The Sun Devils will face Jalin Conyers and his Texas Tech Red Raiders on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in Lubbock, Texas.
