Arizona State sent eight wrestlers to the NCAA tournament, and halfway through they have four wrestlers remaining.
All four wrestlers are in the semi finals and all became All-Americans.
125 lbs No.8 Richard Figueroa
Figueroa upset No. 1 Braeden Davis (Penn State) in the quarterfinals 3-2. Figueroa secured the win with the help of a ride time point.
“I’m a dog on top, always have been and had to show it out there,” said Figueroa.
Figueroa will face No. 12 Anthony Noto (Lock Haven) tonight in the semi finals.
149 lbs No.2 Kyle Parco
Parco defeated No. 10 Chance Lamer (Cal Poly) 14-4 to advance to the semi finals.
“This year, it takes a lot of mindset training, lot of focus and lot of belief, and I think I have that this year,” said Parco.
Parco aims to stand atop the podium at the tournament’s conclusion. He will face No. 6 Austin Gomez (Michigan) in the semifinals tonight.
157 lb No. 2 Jacori Teemer
Teemer defeated No. 10 Jared Franek (Iowa) 5-2 to advance to the semi finals.
“I’m answering all the questions, all the doubters. That’s why I took my singlet off to show my scar. I’m back to where I left off after the long year off,” said Teemer.
Teemer missed all of last year with an injury and is once again in the semi finals and an All- American. Tonight in the semifinals he will face No. 6 Daniel Cardenas (Stanford). Teemer holds a 2-0 record against Cardenas this season and is 3-0 all-time.
HWT No. 4 Cohlton Schultz
Schultz defeated No. 5 Nathan Taylor (Lehigh) 4-1 in sudden victory to advance to the semi finals.
“None of us came here to be All-Americans/semifinalists, we came here to win the dang thing. So jobs not done but we are one step closer,” said Schultz.
Schultz will wrestle No. 1 Greg Kerkvliet (Penn State) for a chance at the finals.
Julian Chlebove and No. 14 Jesse Vasquez also wrestled in session three, but not for a title.
Chlebove lost a tight match 5-1 to No. 10 Aaron Nagoa (Penn State) ending his run in the tournament.
Jesse Vasquez won his first match of the day against No. 13 Jordan Titus with a pin. In his next match, Vasquez fell 9-5 to No. 11 Josh Koderhandt (Navy) also ending his run in the tournament.
“Being in position is good, but like anything it’s not done,” said head coach Zeke Jones.
After todays matches, Kyle Parco and Jacori Teemer are four-time All Americans. Richard Figueroa is a first time All American following in Brand Courtney’s footsteps.
The Sun Devils are in a good position to bring team hardware back to Tempe. ASU is in 3rd place with 44.5 team points halfway through the NCAA tournament. Michigan is in second with 50.5 and Penn State is in first with 86.5 team points.
