Sun Devils came into session two with all eight wrestlers, and in the team race was in 12th place with eight points.
The Sun Devils in session two went 4-4 with four wrestlers heading into the championship bracket again.
Session 2 Match results:
125 lbs – ASU No. 8 Richard Figueroa vs. No. 9 Patrick McKee (MINN)
Figueroa cruises past McKee with a 16-5 major decision victory, he will wrestle in the quarterfinals tomorrow. He felt confident after his two major decision wins, and hope for success in tomorrow matches.
“It builds up confidence that I can score on these guys. I already in my mind I can. It’s just going out there and doing it,” said Figueroa.
133 lbs – ASU No. 24 Julian Chlebove vs. No. 9 Evan Frost (ISU)
The match was tied with one minute remaining, but Frost picked up the winning takedown with under :10 seconds in the match to defeat Chlebove 4-1.
Chlebove’s loss will move him to the consolation bracket where he will wrestle tomorrow.
141 lbs – ASU No. 14 Jesse Vasquez vs. No. 3 Real Woods (Iowa)
Woods controled the match the whole way as he defeated Vasquez by decision 8-0. Vasquez will wrestle tomorrow in the consolation bracket.
149 lbs – ASU No. 2 Kyle Parco vs. No. 18 Cody Bond (App. St)
Parco defeats Bond by decision 4-2, and he will advance into the quarterfinals.
157 lbs – ASU No. 2 Jacori Teemer vs. No. 15 Cael Swensen (SDSU)
Teemer defeats Swensen by decision 4-1 in a close victory. The match went into overtime with Teemer getting a final takedown to seal the victory, he will advance to the quarterfinals tomorrow.
“It’s awesome, I kinda questioned my self. I’m answering all those questions now. I’m wrestling great, I was in a heater (last match) but I stayed composed, didn’t let the crowd get to me. I’m just glad to advance,” said Teemer.
Teemer missed all of last year with an injury, and is looking to get to the podium this year.
HWT – ASU No. 4 Cohlton Schultz vs. No. 13 Yaraslau Slavikouski (Rutgers)
Schultz defeats Slavikouski by decision 3-1 and advances to the quarterfinals.
Consolation Bracket results
174 lbs – ASU No. 33 Cael Valencia vs. No. 17 Max Maylor (Wisc.)
Maylor defeats Valencia my major decision 14-9. This loss ends Valencia’s run in the tournament with his final record of 1-2.
184 lbs – ASU Tony Negron vs. No. 15 Reece Heller (Pitt)
Negron took a 3-1 lead into the second period, but with little time in the second Heller reverses Negron pinning him with seconds left on the clock. This loss ends his season and collegiate career.
“I love how are guys are competing. They’re going for it and that’s what we ask out of them. I know I tell people I don’t make predictions, but I do tell them our guys are prepared and compete hard, and that’s what they are doing,” said assitant coach Lee Pritts.
ASU has 13 team points are tied for 12th place in the team standings.
